The color black is ubiquitous in home décor. It pairs well with just about any other color. It feels classy. It can add a splash of elegance to any living space. But now, trendy decorators are making the shift to blues. Deep blues such as indigo have become a favorite for those looking to add a rich, dark accent without the harshness of black. With its preference over black growing steadily, blue is indeed becoming the new black. When thinking of using blues in your home, here are some things to consider:
• DO mix blues with soft neutrals. The blue will help make these colors pop.
• DON’T be afraid to mix blue and black. What was once thought to be taboo, blue and black are being used together more frequently today.
• DO mix rich shades of blue with sharp contrast colors.
• DON’T paint a wall a deep blue unless it is an accent wall. Four walls of blue will darken a room significantly.
• DO map out your splashes of blue in a space. Hang a blue piece of art, then set out a rug with blue accents, and add a blue pillow.
• DON’T miss opportunities to introduce blues in interesting ways, such as water-inspired art or photography.
Blue artwork adds a touch of glam to an otherwise bland hallway.
2016 Remodeling Trend: BRIGHT Accents
In March, we blogged about the hottest new color trend of the year: Greige (view article here). That’s because 2016 is the year of neutral colors and natural materials — think creams, light grays, natural wood, stone or concrete — as they’re classy and timeless. These passive neutral shades so popular this year act as the perfect backdrop for another hot trend: bright, vivid accents!
Hot accent colors this year range from bold blues like Blue Cloud, warm reds like Stateroom Red, or shades of lavender, lilac, and purple.
Remember, you don’t have to paint an accent wall to achieve those pops of color and contrast, you can also make a statement with accessories, draperies, and more, which you can, of course, find at our showroom in Loveland!

Gray is the hot new neutral of 2016. In fact, because of gray’s ability to mix with beige tones to become the latest go-to-color, designers are calling the trend: Greige.
Gray neutrals are so popular right now because their versatility allows you to mix and match warm and cool colored walls, rugs, furniture, and accent pieces without feeling stuck in one style. Some may think of gray as impersonal and/or limited, but there are actually a wide range of hazy, smoky, cool and even warm grays to choose from.
The key to choosing the right gray is determining the right undertone for your room. Consult with an experienced designer at Colorado Blinds and Design and we’d be happy to help you choose the perfect shade for your space!
