At Colorado Blinds & Design, our staff has over 50 years combined experience in the industry. One of our installers, Chris Bobbs, has 15 years experience alone. He recently obtained his Hunter Douglas® Motorized Installer certification and is our resident expert on motorized shades. A little product knowledge goes a long way, so read below or stop in our showroom for all your motorization questions!

Motorization can be applied to a variety of shades in a variety of manners. They are:

PowerTilt™ with Platinum™ Technology: This motorized lifting system combines both line-of-sight (using infrared technology) and “out-of-sight” control (using radio frequency technology) to control the window coverings.

The PowerTilt™ battery-powered system only tilts slats open or closed.  One remote can control a group of window coverings to tilt together, even in multiple rooms.

PowerGlide® 2.0 with Platinum™ Technology: This motorized lifting system combines both line-of-sight (using infrared technology) and “out-of-sight” control (using radio frequency technology) to control the window coverings.

PowerGlide® 2.0 motorized lifting system allows you to open and close sheer products  and rotate the fabric vanes. One remote can control a group of window coverings to tilt together, even in multiple rooms.

PowerRise® 2.0 with Platinum™ Technology is available with the Top-Down/Bottom-Up and Duolite™ design options. The PowerRise® 2.0 with Platinum™ Technology battery-powered system is our easiest-to-install motorization option because no additional wiring is required.

In conjunction with a Platinum wall-switch, shades can also be controlled from a Platinum remote control. This is the same remote that is used with Hunter Douglas PowerRise®, PowerGlide®, and PowerTilt™ products. Using the Platinum remote, window coverings can be controlled individually or in groups.

Sustainability and Hunter Douglas® Window Treatments

admin Latest News, Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment

Just a few years ago, “green” products and sustainable design were buzz words in the design industry. Now, these “trends” have proved their staying power. Sustainable design is of the utmost importance in interior design and architecture, and window coverings are no exception. Hunter Douglas has gone above and beyond industry standards to deliver products to consumers that are sustainable in a variety of ways. Read below or stop in our showroom to learn more!

  • All Hunter Douglas® products are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified®. This certification is determined by a third party and verifies that the products and processes to make the products release low chemical and particle emissions indoors. Furthermore, the certification backs sustainability claims by manufacturers. The claims are regulated by established standards and certification procedures, including testing methods, allowable emissions levels and toxicity limits.
  • Certain Hunter Douglas® products meet criteria for the federal tax credit for energy efficiency. Hunter products will eliminate energy loss through windows, where up to 50% of energy can be lost.
  • Certain  Hunter Douglas® products are comprised of reeds, grasses and bamboo. These natural materials are sustainable in that they are fast growing and regenerate quickly.
  • Also, Hunter products are made in the United States, reducing the large “carbon footprint” that is associated with products that are shipped from overseas.

Great Tips on “Winterizing” Your Home: How to Save on Energy Costs this Winter

admin Interior Design, Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment   , ,

Our newest Interior Designer and Window Covering Specialist, Karla Allingham, has shared some great tips on ways to reduce heating costs due to energy loss this winter. Her quick and easy tips are small, easy and inexpensive methods that make a HUGE difference! Take a look at her post below or come see her in our showroom.

It definitely feels like winter has arrived! With that in mind, consider the following home improvements to prepare for the cold winter months.

  •   Clean or replace your furnace filters to increase energy efficiency. A good rule of thumb is to do this every heating and cooling season.
  •   Insulate electrical outlets and switch plate covers with foam inserts and apply weather stripping around doors and windows to reduce drafts.
  •   Reverse the direction of your ceiling fan to counter-clockwise so that the warm air circulates around the room.
  • Make sure floor registers, baseboard heaters, and radiators are not blocked by furniture or drapes to provide more efficient heat flow.
  •  Add area rugs to cold bare floors and consider hanging thermal drapes to increase comfort and reduce heating costs.
  • Install energy efficient window coverings to reduce heat loss through windows. Duette Architella shades from Hunter Douglas can save up to 20% on energy bills and typically pay for themselves in just 2 years.

By implementing the above mentioned tips, you will save energy and money.

Vertical Woven Woods: Great Product at a Great Price

admin Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment

At Colorado Blinds & Design, we are beyond excited that Hunter Douglas® decided to introduce one of our favorite products, Provenance® Woven Woods, to their vertical collection. We became ecstatic when we discovered that the price point for this product is extremely economical. But we will get to that a bit later! First, let’s talk about what makes this product so great.

The woven woods collection is made of bamboo, reeds, grasses and, you guessed it, woods. Fabricators take great care in hand weaving the materials to create a quality shade that adds warmth and a casual feel to any space. And now, this product is available in a vertical application in addition to the existing horizontal shade that was already on the market. Bonus: the horizontal and vertical shades are from the same collection, and we can coordinate shades between the two applications.

We love Hunter Douglas® because of the exceptional quality of their products and the lifetime limited warranty they provide for the consumer. They also take extra steps to ensure innovation and quality are encompassed in every design feature. Provenance® Woven Shades are no exception.

Numerous upgrades and design features can be specified when ordering Provenance® Woven Shades. For example, edge banding protects the edges of the shades and guarantees extra durability. Also, it adds a design element to the shade that customizes the look of the shade. For added privacy, a light filtering or room darkening lining can be added to the shade. Each shade comes with a standard valance, but upgrades are available.

Now…let’s talk about price. Provenance® shades in a vertical application are actually in the lower 1/3 price group when compared to all the vertical applications that Hunter Douglas® offers. A basic lined Provenance® vertical shade on a 7′ by 7′ door would be about $500. The average consumer would be hard pressed to find a hand crafted product at such a great price point!
