Hunter Douglas® and Green Design

Hunter Douglas® does take measures to ensure their products are environmentally friendly and safe. All Hunter Douglas® products are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified. This certification is determined by a third party and verifies that the products and processes to make the products release low chemical and particle emissions indoors.

Furthermore, the certification backs sustainability claims by manufacturers. The claims are regulated by established standards and certification procedures, including testing methods, allowable emissions levels and toxicity limits. Also, Hunter products are made in the United States, reducing the large “carbon footprint” that is associated with products that are shipped from overseas.

Hunter Douglas® is an innovator in the industry, creating new products that are aesthetically pleasing, functional and “green.” In addition to being Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified, certain Hunter Douglas®  products meet criteria for the federal tax credit for energy efficiency. Hunter products will eliminate energy loss through windows, where up to 50% of energy can be lost. For the homeowner, this means reduced energy consumption, which in turn means reduced utility bills. In their commitment to energy efficient design, Hunter Douglas®  found three key elements that are crucial in energy conservation. They are:
  • Insulation: The unique honeycomb design reduces heat flow (both heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer) through windows
  • Solar Heat Control: Control of solar heat (heat generated from the sun) by allowing it to warm the home in the winter and minimizing the amount that comes in during the summer
  • Daylighting: Select window fashions enhance daylighting (the use of natural light) by diffusing and dispersing sunlight evenly into a room, reducing the need for artificial lighting
