Blind Repair vs. Replacement

admin Latest News Leave a comment

Many of our customers are at a loss in deciding when to simply repair a shade and when to replace a shade. Unfortunately, the solution to this problem is not always cut and dry..

We probably couldn't repair this blind

Colorado Blinds & Design can Repair Most Blinds, but we Specialize in Repairs for Hunter Douglas®. Our policy, per Hunter Douglas®, is to repair any HD® shade that the current homeowner purchased for the home for for free under a lifetime limited warranty, regardless if the Hunter Douglas® product was purchased from us or not. The warranty includes problems such as restrings, cord replacements, cord lock replacements, tilter and wand repair/replacements and re-laddering. Hunter Douglas® warranties their products for life because they are confident the quality, engineering and extensive testing of their products is unparalleled and will last, you guessed it, a lifetime. So if any of your Hunter Douglas® shades are malfunctioning, bring ’em in and we will take good care of you.

We also repair other brands, but charge $55 per shade plus the cost of parts. If you are unsure whether your shade can be repaired or not, simply bring it to our showroom and one of our trained window covering specialists will help you assess the blind and decide whether or not it is worth fixing. Our policy is to not accept blinds (or brands) we deem not worth our time and your money to repair. We won’t accept your money to repair an inferior shade.

Sustainability and Hunter Douglas® Window Treatments

admin Latest News, Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment

Just a few years ago, “green” products and sustainable design were buzz words in the design industry. Now, these “trends” have proved their staying power. Sustainable design is of the utmost importance in interior design and architecture, and window coverings are no exception. Hunter Douglas has gone above and beyond industry standards to deliver products to consumers that are sustainable in a variety of ways. Read below or stop in our showroom to learn more!

  • All Hunter Douglas® products are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified®. This certification is determined by a third party and verifies that the products and processes to make the products release low chemical and particle emissions indoors. Furthermore, the certification backs sustainability claims by manufacturers. The claims are regulated by established standards and certification procedures, including testing methods, allowable emissions levels and toxicity limits.
  • Certain Hunter Douglas® products meet criteria for the federal tax credit for energy efficiency. Hunter products will eliminate energy loss through windows, where up to 50% of energy can be lost.
  • Certain  Hunter Douglas® products are comprised of reeds, grasses and bamboo. These natural materials are sustainable in that they are fast growing and regenerate quickly.
  • Also, Hunter products are made in the United States, reducing the large “carbon footprint” that is associated with products that are shipped from overseas.

Sliding Glass Door? There’s a Window Covering for That

admin Latest News Leave a comment

At Colorado Blinds & Design, we receive numerous inquiries about window covering solutions for sliding glass doors. Our clients seem intimidated by their size and the overwhelming possibilities of products that can be applied over the door. Essentially, sliding glass doors are just very large windows. If you think of them in these simple terms, the task of finding a product that fits your budget and coordinates with your interior seems less daunting.

Below you can find brief summaries of the vertical products that Hunter Douglas®, our FAVORITE brand, offers.

Duette Architella® and Applause Vertiglide® Honeycomb Shades: Just like it’s horizontal application, vertical honeycomb shades are great insulators. This shade is ideal for a sliding glass door that receives a lot of sun exposure. This type of vertical application is also ideal in an open room(s) or area(s) that have honeycomb shades covering their windows.

Luminette® Privacy Sheers: This unique product combines draperies and sheers. Operable fabric covered vanes are surrounded by a sheer fabric. A wand control tilts the fabric covered vanes open or closed. This shade is ideal for sliding glass doors that do not necessarily get a lot of sun exposure. It is ideal for consumers who desire sun and a view during the day, but privacy during the evening hours.

Luminette® Modern Draperies: Essentially, this product is a structured drapery. Contoured vanes inside the product insure a curvy shape.  It is ideal for consumers who desire insulation and UV blocking properties.

Provenance® Woven Wood Vertical Draperies: Provenance® Woven Wood Vertical Draperies are designed to coordinate with the Provenance collection of horizontal woven woods. This product is ideal for those sliding glass doors that don’t necessarily receive a lot of sun exposure. This vertical application can be lined for increased privacy and UV blockage.

Crosswinds® Verticals: The perfect companion to the Country Woods® wood blind collection, Crosswinds® wood vertical blinds offer both beauty and functionality. This product is ideal for more traditional tastes and rooms that have horizontal wood blind applications.

Vertical Solutions®: This product is ideal for consumers who desire privacy and UV blockage.
Vertical Solution® is affordably priced and features 14 vinyl and 5 fabric styles. This basic products is ideal for consumers who are on a budget but still desire the quality product Hunter Douglas® provides.

Somner®: This unique product has a wide range of vinyls, colors and textures. Over 100 fabric and vinyl styles are available to meet your needs. This product is ideal for all consumers. Some insulation is provided, as well as privacy and light control. It is a highly versatile product.

Great Tips on “Winterizing” Your Home: How to Save on Energy Costs this Winter

admin Interior Design, Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment   , ,

Our newest Interior Designer and Window Covering Specialist, Karla Allingham, has shared some great tips on ways to reduce heating costs due to energy loss this winter. Her quick and easy tips are small, easy and inexpensive methods that make a HUGE difference! Take a look at her post below or come see her in our showroom.

It definitely feels like winter has arrived! With that in mind, consider the following home improvements to prepare for the cold winter months.

  •   Clean or replace your furnace filters to increase energy efficiency. A good rule of thumb is to do this every heating and cooling season.
  •   Insulate electrical outlets and switch plate covers with foam inserts and apply weather stripping around doors and windows to reduce drafts.
  •   Reverse the direction of your ceiling fan to counter-clockwise so that the warm air circulates around the room.
  • Make sure floor registers, baseboard heaters, and radiators are not blocked by furniture or drapes to provide more efficient heat flow.
  •  Add area rugs to cold bare floors and consider hanging thermal drapes to increase comfort and reduce heating costs.
  • Install energy efficient window coverings to reduce heat loss through windows. Duette Architella shades from Hunter Douglas can save up to 20% on energy bills and typically pay for themselves in just 2 years.

By implementing the above mentioned tips, you will save energy and money.

Vertical Woven Woods: Great Product at a Great Price

admin Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment

At Colorado Blinds & Design, we are beyond excited that Hunter Douglas® decided to introduce one of our favorite products, Provenance® Woven Woods, to their vertical collection. We became ecstatic when we discovered that the price point for this product is extremely economical. But we will get to that a bit later! First, let’s talk about what makes this product so great.

The woven woods collection is made of bamboo, reeds, grasses and, you guessed it, woods. Fabricators take great care in hand weaving the materials to create a quality shade that adds warmth and a casual feel to any space. And now, this product is available in a vertical application in addition to the existing horizontal shade that was already on the market. Bonus: the horizontal and vertical shades are from the same collection, and we can coordinate shades between the two applications.

We love Hunter Douglas® because of the exceptional quality of their products and the lifetime limited warranty they provide for the consumer. They also take extra steps to ensure innovation and quality are encompassed in every design feature. Provenance® Woven Shades are no exception.

Numerous upgrades and design features can be specified when ordering Provenance® Woven Shades. For example, edge banding protects the edges of the shades and guarantees extra durability. Also, it adds a design element to the shade that customizes the look of the shade. For added privacy, a light filtering or room darkening lining can be added to the shade. Each shade comes with a standard valance, but upgrades are available.

Now…let’s talk about price. Provenance® shades in a vertical application are actually in the lower 1/3 price group when compared to all the vertical applications that Hunter Douglas® offers. A basic lined Provenance® vertical shade on a 7′ by 7′ door would be about $500. The average consumer would be hard pressed to find a hand crafted product at such a great price point!
