The latest interior design trends are reflecting our design philosophy here at Colorado Blinds & Design, and we couldn’t be more excited!

According to the Home Fashion Forecast Trend Ticker, interior design trends are leaning towards classic and timeless prints and pieces. At Colorado Blinds & Design, we highly advise spending money on quality, timeless pieces because they will virtually never go out of style. Trendy pieces and accessories do have their place. However, we advise that our clients do not spend a hefty amount of money on them, as they will eventually go out of style. Here are some examples of timeless interior design elements:

  • Use of traditional fabrics, such as Ikats, Indigenous patterns, Stripes, Damasks, Plaids, Florals and Herringbones. Designers are adapting and modifying these prints by adding bright colors.
  • Classic shapes and silhouettes are always in style. A plethora of furniture pieces fall into this category, including high-back chairs, armories, chests, and dressers.
  • Animal Prints! Don’t cringe just yet. When done correctly, animal prints add a sophisticated edge to an interior. The key is to use animal prints in small amounts, and incorporate an authentic pattern with classic materials. Think zebra rugs, cheetah pillows and giraffe print high-back chairs.
  • Metal light fixtures. NO trashy brassy fixtures! Think brushed nickel, antique bronze and hammered copper.

Classic touches will add sophistication and class to any space. Virtually every furniture or home accent store has pieces that have a classic flair. You just have to know what you are looking for! If you are still stumped, we would be glad to help. Give us a call or visit our showroom.

At Colorado Blinds & Design, we are committed to finding the perfect design solution for our clients. Our 30 years of experience in the design industry has taught us a lot, including the best companies and contractors to use for our client’s special projects.

Ed and Barb Seifert are just one of the great companies we love to use. The Seiferts own E.A. Seifert Landscape, Inc. and can assist with your landscape needs. They specialize in a plethora of landscape services, including water features, tree and shrub planting, lighting, fire pits, landscape renovations, irrigation systems, fences and arbors, planting, art, sculpture and floral displays.

They designed and fabricated this beautiful sculpture for our clients Steve and Patty. They were thrilled with the piece; take a look at what they had to say…

Thanks for recommending Ed Seifert.  We saw him today at 2pm and found just the perfect piece for the cubby over the stairway.  Really a neat guy with great ideas.  He had one piece on his website that he sold…but had another one in his house that he is going to modify a bit for us.

Again, really appreciate your recommendations and thoughts.

We are committed to the client’s happiness here at Colorado Blinds & Design. If we can’t help you with your design needs, we will find someone who can.

Take a look at the E.A. Seifert Landscape, Inc. website!

Give us a call or stop by if you have any design needs.

Congrats, Judy!

Colorado Blinds & Design has a  writer in their midst!

That’s right! One of the owners, Judy Magara, recently won an IPad 2 by entering a contest sponsored by Hunter Douglas® wherein sales people were asked to share their Duette® Architella® sales success story. She wrote a short essay addressing the prompt and won! Check out her success story below..

I had an engineer who called me and came into our showroom.  He came in with his children and was very distracted.  He told me he had just bought very good replacement windows and only wanted to look at our lowest cost honeycomb shade.  I told him I would show it to him but I also wanted to show him the Duette Architella and explain the reasons why it was a better value even though the price was higher.  We talked about the insulating quality of a double pane window by itself with nothing in it and then the difference with an Applause single honeycomb shade versus a Duette Architella shade.  I explained the energy savings on heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer and how the difference in insulating qualities would actually save him money over the years.   He listened to what I had to say and not only purchased Duette Architella shades, but decided on the Meritage Duette Architella (the most expensive of the Architella shades).  About six months later, he called for an appointment.  I measured his basement windows and sold him more Duette Meritage Architella honeycomb shades.  He has given my name to several of his friends.  The Federal Tax Credit wasn’t a concern to him because he had already used it on his replacement windows.  This just proves that product knowledge means all the difference in selling Duette Architella shades.

Vahallan Hand Painted Wall Coverings

admin Interior Design, Latest News Leave a comment   , , , , ,

At Colorado Blinds & Design, we know that the easiest and most affordable way to update a space is to change wall colors and coverings. That’s why we love the unique look of Vahallan hand painted wall coverings.

Vahallan hand painted wall coverings are just that: a custom, hand painted paper that is applied to walls and other surfaces.  The application process is different than that of a traditional wall paper. Pieces of the paper are torn and “decoupaged” to the surface, eliminating seams found in traditional wall papers. Vahallan designed the papers to be flexible enough to be cut into virtually any shape, from circles to diamonds.

This product has many benefits, including color customization, repair-ability, and durability. The product is also easy to repair, clean and install.

Take a look at the photo gallery below to see all of the amazing patterns and colors that Vahallan offers. Scott Busby of Busby Painting completed all of the installations and did an amazing job. Stop in our showroom to see the sample book, or call today for more information.

What is an “R-Value?”

admin Latest News, Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment   , , , ,

Whether you are building a home or you are considering home improvement projects, you have probably come across the term “R-value.” You might also be asking yourself, What the heck does a r-value measure, and why is it so important?

An R-value indicates a resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness. Still confused? So was I until someone explained R-values in simple terms.

Basically, a well insulated wall in your home has an R-value of around 20. The wall keeps the cold out in the winter and the heat out in the summer. It resists heat flow.

A high-quality uncovered window typically has an R-value of around one. Yes, just one. Heat and cold pretty much escape freely through an uncovered window.

A window with a Hunter Douglas Duette Architella window covering has a R-value of around seven.

That’s right. Six times the r-value can be achieved with the simple installation of a window covering. Installing an energy efficient shade can remarkably reduce energy bills and prevent up to 50% of energy loss through windows.

If you are still unsure about the importance of r-values, please feel free to stop in our showroom or give us a call. Our knowledgeable staff would be more than happy to explain any questions you may have!

The Importance of Pre-Wiring for New Residential Construction

admin Latest News, Purchasing Blinds in Colorado Leave a comment   , , ,

Today, technology plays an important, if not vital, role in everyday life. Technology not only makes everyday life easier, it makes it possible.

Enormous new strides in technological advances are made everyday. The latest innovation in homes, which is relatively inexpensive and can add considerable value to your home, is prewiring for home automation and “smart home” capabilities.

The term “prewiring” refers to the installation of the appropriate cables and wires during a new home’s construction. It includes the electrical wiring, as well as the low voltage, home systems cabling. Essentially, all that is needed to make smart homes possible is the extra wiring cable and small about of extra labor to run the appropriate cables to the correct location within the home. So, for a small amount of money, you can have a home with full automation capabilities. Because of the low cost and high return on investment (when selling the home later), movement toward making prewiring for new residential construction in custom homes the standard is beginning to take effect.

You might be asking yourself Why does this matter? And why is this on a website about window coverings? Well, prewiring can extend to windows, especially those high windows that are impossible to reach. Then, when the home is finished and you are shopping for window coverings, we can install motorized shades that hook up to the prewiring. Now, you have motorized window coverings that do not require a change of batteries once a year. You can even control the shades with your IPad or tablet. How cool is that?

If you are thinking of building a new home, consider prewiring. If you have any questions or would like to talk about prewiring more in-depth, call (970-663-0505) or stop by our showroom to schedule an appointment with Chris, our motorization and wiring guru. He is extremely knowledgeable in this area and would be happy to answer any questions and explain the prewiring procedures.
